The Department of Pediatrics of the Chung-Shan Medical University Hospital (CSMUH) provides comprehensive care for all newborns, infants, children, and adolescents. Our faculty include a full range of pediatric sub-specialists, including pediatric cardiology, gastroenterology and hepatology, hematology and oncology, immunology and rheumatology, nephrology, neurology, endocrinology, neonatology, infectious disease, medical genetics, pediatric emergency care and pediatric intensive care. We also cooperate with many other specialists in pediatric surgery, pediatric anesthesiology, pediatric radiology, pediatric psychiatry, pediatric dentistry, pediatric ENT and pediatric urology for caring those children in need.
Teaching medical students is another important task for our faculty. Our department also provides the most comprehensive and solid training program for graduates of medical school who choose pediatrics as their careers.
Teaching for Medical Student and training pediatric residents
Goal:
Teach medical students about the basic knowledge of Pediatrics, including children health care, preventive medicine, and diagnosis of common pediatric diseases
Contents:
Junior medical students — General introduction of Pediatrics (observation only)
Introduce principles of Pediatrics, including growth and development, nutrition and common diseases
Senior medical students — Pediatrics
A small group applies to interactive experience where the 6th year students meet with different teachers over the 2-4 weeks rotation. The goals are to learn and practice: presenting a pediatric case, developing a problem list and determining a differential diagnosis for common pediatric problems.
Outpatient clinic of Pediatrics–Through taking history, performing physical examinations and making tentative diagnosis.
