To implement the principles of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) and sustainable development, while aligning them with the Hospital’s clinical strengths and responsibilities as a medical centre, Chung Shan Medical University Hospital established the Sustainability Development Management Committee in 2024 to coordinate and oversee sustainability-related initiatives across the Hospital.
The Chair of the Committee is appointed by the Superintendent and is responsible for leading the Committee’s overall operations. The Chair also nominates the Vice Chair, Executive Director, and Executive Secretary, who assume their respective duties upon appointment by the Superintendent.
The Committee comprises representatives from the Department of Medicine, Allied Health Department, Medical Administration Department, Nursing Department, Center for Healthcare Quality, Occupational Safety and Health Office, Office of Communications and Public Relations, Financial Management Office, Human Resources Office, General Affairs Office, Procurement and Property Management Office, Engineering Office, Biomedical Engineering Office, Information Technology Office, Chung Hsing Branch, and Wenxin Campus. Based on the nature of their responsibilities, Committee members are organized into three major working groups: the Environmental Sustainability Group, Social Responsibility Group, and Hospital Governance Group. Each group may establish dedicated task forces as necessary to carry out priority initiatives such as greenhouse gas inventories, energy conservation and carbon reduction, waste management, social inclusion, sustainable workforce development, and patient care.

The Committee convenes quarterly and is responsible for establishing annual sustainability goals and strategies, overseeing the implementation and effectiveness of sustainability initiatives, and promoting employee education, training, and sustainability-related information disclosure.
The Executive Secretary is responsible for coordinating working-group meetings, consolidating agenda items, and tracking the implementation of resolutions. All meeting resolutions are compiled by the Secretariat and reported to the highest-level governance team, ensuring that sustainability governance actions are integrated, institutionalised, and continuously implemented.
