英文簡介

Since the foundation of Chung-Shan Medical College in 1966, thanks to the fortitude and entire devotion of all former and present members, the Department of Internal Medicine has continuously grown and improved and is now composed of 10 divisions, including Cardiology、Gastroenterology、Nephrology、Division of Pulmonary Medicine、Infectious Diseases、Hematology、Endocrinology and Metabolism、Division of Rheumatology、Oncology and General internal medicine. Formerly located in the Chung-Kang District, the Department of Internal Medicine was the first department to be relocated to the Da-Ching District in November 1997 with a current capacity of 291 beds in the regular ward and 59 beds in the intensive care unit, together with an independent hemodialysis unit.

At present, there are 53 attending physicians (36 have Ph. D degree and 12 have master degree) and 27 residents in the Department of Internal Medicine. The present director is Prof. Chun-Che Lin. His subspecialty is gastroenterology and he is also a faculty in school of medicine, CSMU.

In addition to clinical healthcare giving, attending physicians are also dedicated to research and medical teaching. More than 80 articles (SCI: 62 articles) related to sciences of internal medicine had been published from 2009 to 2011. Every year, about 30 PGY residents and more than 180 undergraduate medical students (75 in internship and 100-120 in clerkship) will participate in the teams for patients’ healthcare and receive intensive teaching of clinical medicine.

The curriculum of residents training and education includes all core elements for a qualified physician required by TSIM and DOH. Each team of healthcare include 4 to 6 medical students, 2 junior or PGY residents, one senior resident and one attending visiting staff. The first-year residents (R1) rotate to every subspecialty and are in charge with the primary care of patients. They also would be a tutor in teaching medical students. The second-year and third-year residents will start the training in emergent medicine, intensive care medicine and some special units, e.g. hemodialysis units and endoscopic center. The chief residents are responsible for arranging academic teaching while simultaneously undertake their subspecialty training.

Since 2008, Center for demonstration in training of general internal medicine had been established and granted from Taiwan association of Medical education (TAME). The responsibility of this program is to promote the education of general medicine in each specialty. More than 200 attending staffs from CSMUH and 20 regional hospitals had received full training and been qualified as tutors in teaching general medicine.
